Shipping
The Bahamas is one of the largest shipping registries with over 1500 vessels registered exceeding 33 million gross tonnage. It is the clear leader in the tonnage of passenger ships. In addition, The Bahamas is one of the largest contributors to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The Bahamas Maritime Authority (the “Authority”) is a statutory corporation established in 1995 in order to establish an efficient and responsive administrative vehicle for the registration of vessels and the enforcement of safety requirements. The Authority has offices in Nassau, London and New York. The Authority represents The Bahamas at the IMO. The main objective of the Authority is to attract high quality tonnage and maintain the highest international standards of safety and operation.
We work with the leading shipping firms in London and elsewhere and we strive to provide efficient and effective service to our shipping clients. We understand the time pressures that usually accompany these transactions.
We are able to advise clients in the areas of ship registration, mortgages on ships, including the preparation and review of security documents and deeds of covenants, sale of Bahamian registered ships and the title of such ships.
